You know the old adage “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” right? Well, for a very long time (since our founding in 2011 actually,) Galactic Netcasts has been trying to prove that wrong by putting our podcast audio on archive.org. In case you don’t know, they are a non-profit digital library that provides free public access to collections of digitized materials, including websites, software applications/games, music, movies/videos, moving images, and public-domain books. In other words, it was never meant to be used as a permanent host of podcast audio. Not to mention a network that puts out hours of new audio content every week.
So, we’ve decided to grow up, become responsible and finally start paying for hosting! But, as of right now, our network doesn’t make enough money to afford it. That’s where you come in!
You may be asking yourself, wow does this affect, or benefit me? Well, Archive.org may not always be there; since they’re non-profit and dependent on donations. That means that audio from your favorite podcast of ours could all of a sudden disappear one day. Or, they may decide to slow your download because a certain episode is really popular!
To make it possible for us to move to a pay service, all we need is $15 a month. That’s the cost of the unlimited plan that Soundcloud.com offers, and here’s how you can help…
Go to http://patreon.com/galacticnetcasts and pledge to donate as little as $1 a month. If we can get 15 listeners to give a dollar, we’ll have it covered. $2 a month will make it happen faster! Or, 3 really generous people who commit to $5 a month would be the ideal situation. Stay tuned because very soon we’ll be adding perks to make donating even more inciting. But, for now, if you already love what we do and love getting it all for free, please consider making a very small monthly donation.
